The project formed part of an inlet works upgrade at Poole Sewage Treatment Works, requiring odour containment solutions suitable for regular operational access. GRP systems were specified to suit the environmental and operational demands associated with wastewater treatment processes.
Project Requirements
The inlet works upgrade required walk-on odour control covers capable of providing safe access while supporting odour containment within a wastewater treatment environment.

Installed GRP Solution

- 105 m² of GRP walk-on odour control covers
The covers were configured to provide continuous coverage across the inlet area while maintaining safe access for operational activities.
Technical & Design Requirements
The GRP odour control covers were designed to meet the following technical criteria:
- Walk-on covers: load rated to 5 kN/m²
- Slip-resistant surfaces suitable for wet wastewater environments
- Corrosion-resistant materials appropriate for long-term exposure
- Structural stability for regular operational access
These requirements ensured consistent performance across the inlet works installation.
Installation & Delivery
GRP odour control covers were delivered to site in prefabricated sections to support efficient handling and installation. Installation was coordinated alongside inlet works upgrade activities, allowing safe sequencing within the operational treatment environment.
Outcome & In-Service Performance
The completed GRP odour control covers now provide effective containment across the inlet works while supporting safe operational access. The non-corrosive construction and defined load rating support long-term performance in a high-moisture wastewater environment with reduced maintenance requirements.
