Modular GRP enclosures for odour control at wastewater treatment facilities
PJNC designed and supplied bespoke GRP skip enclosures to provide effective odour containment over removable skips used for dry sludge collection at sewage treatment plants. The enclosures were developed to operate within corrosive wastewater environments while allowing regular skip removal and replacement.
Project Requirement
Odour control was required over removable skips used to collect dry sludge within an operational sewage treatment plant. The enclosure system needed to provide effective containment while allowing the skips to be accessed, removed and emptied as part of routine operations.
The solution also needed to accommodate varying skip sizes and plant layouts, while remaining suitable for long-term use in a corrosive outdoor environment.
The GRP Solution
A bespoke GRP skip enclosure system was developed to suit the specific requirements of wastewater treatment operations. The modular design allows the enclosure to be configured to suit different skip sizes, heights and plant arrangements.
GRP was selected as a suitable material due to its corrosion resistance and suitability for use in aggressive wastewater environments, while remaining lightweight and practical to install.

Fabrication & Installation
The GRP enclosure components were manufactured off site using structural GRP profiles and sections. The modular sections were supplied ready for assembly, allowing installation to be carried out efficiently on site.
The enclosure was installed in a way that maintained access for ongoing skip handling operations, minimising disruption to normal plant activity.
Performance & Suitability
The completed GRP skip enclosures provide effective odour containment while remaining compatible with routine skip removal and maintenance. Their corrosion resistance and low maintenance requirements make them well suited to long-term use in wastewater treatment environments.
